My new accessory

Obviously it is a very heavy necklace, but in Germany people say: wer schön sein will muss leiden (you have to suffer to be beautiful). 😛

Lemon chicken wings

I have tried so many different ways to cook chicken wings, this one is definitively the best. The recipe is a little bit weird, because it is my own creation based on several classical recipes of chicken wings. Perhaps I will make an extra post about it.

Zeit für Genuss

The last coffee time with a friend, who left Germany today for good.  I have no idea when and where we can meet each other again but I will miss the joyful moments.

Indian Butter Chicken Masala

Butter chicken

I followed the recipe from this site(http://www.cookingandme.com/2013/03/butter-chicken-masala-recipe-indian.html) with tiny adaptation.

Ingredients:

  • 500 gm of chicken upper leg (or 250 gm boneless chicken)
  • 2 onions, minced
  • 4 chilis(optional, because I like very spicy food)
  • tomato, pureed (I only had small cherry tomato, also nice)
  • 1 tbsp of tomato paste or sauce
  • 1 tbsp of butter
  • 1 tsp of minced garlic
  • 1 tsp of minced ginger
  • 2 tsp of coriander powder
  • 1 tsp of chilli powder
  • 1 tsp of garam masala
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 3 tbsp of cream or pureed cashew paste (soak and grind cashew nuts)
  • 1-2 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder

(coriander powder, garam masala and turmeric powder from Asian supermarkt)
Butter chicken 1

  • Marinate the chicken pieces in ginger, garlic, turmeric, and chilli powder for 30 min
  • Heat the butter in a pan and add the minced onions. Fry until golden brown
  • Add the ginger, garlic, coriander, chilli powder, turmeric, and salt. Fry for a minute until fragrant
  • Add the pureed tomato and tomato paste and cook for 3-4 mins until the mixture bubbles uniformly
  • Thrown in the chicken. Cook covered for 8-10 mins until the chicken is soft. The chicken will let out more water, just check once or twice in between and give the curry a stir. Keep the flame on sim
  • When the chicken is cooked soft, open the lid and cook for a further minute or two. If the gravy is too thick, add some water at this stage
  • When done, add the garam masala or chicken masala and the cream or cashew paste. Give it a good stir, but don’t boil
  • Adjust salt, garnish with the coriander leaves, and remove from fire
  • Serve hot with tawa naan, vegetable pulao, or jeera rice

Antwerp — food and drink

For me, one of the most beautiful things of travel is to try some special local restaurants and bars. This time I followed tips (1. and 2.) from ”USE-IT” guides for the 1-day trip in Antwerp.

1. Lunch in a seafood reastaurant in Moroccan community. Here you can compile a personal mix of fresh seafoods, delicious and cheap! This big plate cost 24€.

Seafood

2. Bergian beer in the oldest bar Quinten Matsijs. The alcohol concentration of Bergian beer is really high, over 7%.  I orded the special cherry beer, which I also had in Brugge. I love the red color and the sweet cherry taste.

Beer

3. Interesting mini cocktail bar. This young man opened the mini bar outside his mother’s vintage shop. He made this ”mojito” like the classic one but added fresh basil leaves and a lit cinnamon stick. You can’t taste the cinnamon from the mojito, but you can smell it.

4. Dinner in a Chinese restaurant. Antwerp has the biggst China Town of Bergium, which is directly next to the central railway station. Here you can get real original Chinese food and the roast duck is absolutely the must try dish. The steamed Dim Sum were also fantastic.

Casual holiday look

Plaid blouse + jeans shorts + backpack = casual look for holiday @ Antwerpen
